4 Different Asian Restaurants in CDMX You Must Visit

We residents of the capital love Asian foods, whether it be good sushi with fresh fish, a warm ramen in cold weather, dumplings, buns and other iconic dishes from that region. Our love for the foods from that continent is such, that a countless number of restaurants have opened their doors to offer the best of Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Asian cuisine in general, intended to satisfy our palates and encourage us to try unique flavors and ingredients.

If you are a fan of this food, you’ll surely be a frequent customer of the iconic oriental restaurants, such as Hunan for Chinese food and Tori Tori for sushi, plus others. However, we invite you to visit and get to know these four innovative Asian restaurants that will surely earn a spot on your list of favorites.

Black Taiga Street Kitchen

On a second floor on Tamaulipas street in the Condesa area, you’ll find Black Taiga. An ideal space for adventurous palates, as its concept is a fusion of Mexican Asian, where they serve street food focused on that continent’s southeast. Start your experience with one of their creative cocktails, such as the Fatal Fury with vodka, sake, lemongrass, Himalayan salt, Thai chile and soda.

Its menu is divided into three sections: buns, tacos and tortas. We suggest starting with the Kum Yom soup, shrimp broth with coconut milk, ginger and lemon tea with fresh shrimp. The rice flour buns are small and our favorite, without a doubt, was the Orochimaru with crunchy chicken dressed with mayonnaise with cucumbers and mustard. Regarding the tacos made with wheat tortillas, we recommend the Honda: fried octopus with kimchi, fried potato strips and wasabi sauce, while the short rib torta was crowned the winner in that category.

Bibimbap

Honey Butter Chips

Fat Boy Moves

This corner just celebrated its first anniversary and has quickly become a favorite for Korean comfort food in the Condesa. Fat Boy Moves is a super casual and small place, a dream come true for a unique couple who met in New York. Marifer is Mexican, while her husband, Allen, was born in Seoul, South Korea, but moved at a very young age to the United States. After working at multiple renowned restaurants in Manhattan, they decided to come to Mexico and open their own project and make the capital’s residents fall in love with their delicious and unique dishes.

Don’t forget to try the cauliflower, the fried chicken with honey, the bibimbap, which is a bowl of rice with vegetables and a fried egg on top, and the beef shank noodles. Desserts here are insane, especially the honey butter chips, potatoes with honey and milk ice cream or the cochidonas. You’ll love them!

Suuwaymx

Where the Belmondo restaurant used to be on Alfonso Reyes street, Suuway has opened a new Japanese-Thai proposal, uniting the owners of Belmondo with the chef at Mog. The name of the place comes from the phonetic pronunciation of the word pretty in Thai.

Here you will find a combination of excellent Thai food with a variety of sushi. To start, we recommend the Som Tam salad with papaya, green beans, carrots, cherry tomatoes and dried shrimp, or the Yam Talay with shrimp, calamari and mussels. Continue with their tori pad Thai with chicken or with a Thai ramen that includes rice noodles, shrimp, pork and soybean sprouts. If you would rather order sushi, we recommend the seared tuna bowl or the dragon roll. You can’t leave without having their matcha mille crepe cake, it’s delicious!

Sesame

Sesame is already a classic to try oriental dishes in the Roma neighborhood. However, it never stops being one of our favorites. This restaurant is headed by renowned Chef Josefina Santa Cruz. Upon entering the restaurant, they take you on a journey to the Asian continent with intense flavors, spices and aromas. The cuisine of countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, India and China, among others, fuse together at this corner to provide an authentic yet casual experience.

Within its vast menu, some of their signature dishes are the BBQ glazed baby back ribs, the tacos in lettuce leaves, the wonju rice with soft crab and kimchee, the pork belly bun and the Thai curry with coconut milk and mango chutney. Conclude your meal with a matcha or ginger and lemon ice cream.
