A carnivore at heart? Get to know these innovative steakhouses

If you enjoy a good steak, you surely already have your list of favorite restaurants where to have this dish, from the traditional Argentinian, American or Mexican. Places such as The Palm, Sonora Grill, Loma Linda, Puerto Madero, among others, they take great care in the ingredients and preparation of their different cuts so that diners can enjoy good, juicy and best-tasting meat.

We at Michelleonbell undertook the task to seek new steakhouses that are worth visiting, whether you are searching for a different choice or something closer to your home or office, here are three options all carnivores must get to know.

Mochomos

At Carso Palmas (where you’ll find Sanborns), Mochomos opened its first restaurant in Mexico City. A brand originally from Hermosillo specializing in steaks and seafood in the Sonora style. Mochomos is a steakhouse with a good ambiance, ideal for visiting with friends to enjoy delicious steaks accompanied by cocktails, wine and good music.

Buñuelos de Camarón

We recommend you start with the shrimp fritters in a sweet and sour sauce and cream cheese, octopus and shrimp flambeed with bacanora (a liquor from Sonora) and the marlin + octopus tacos with a pumpkin seed and tree pepper dressing. For the main course, our favorites are Piedra Caliente, which is a beef steak marinated in Asian sauce cooked at your table on a rock, the Mochomos Ribeye marinated for 24 hours in fine herbs, and the Kawi Steak, which is a filet mignon with goat cheese and fried spinach.

Bomba de Chocolate

Filete Kawi

If you are dining with someone who does not love meat, don’t worry! There is a variety of options for everyone to enjoy. We suggest the Colorado salmon glazed with a hibiscus sauce and vegetarian Portobello stuffed with vegetables and goat cheese gratin. Don’t forget to leave space for dessert, the chocolate bomb flamed at your table is a must!

Kerouac

Nearly 60 years after the novel by Jack Kerouac “On The Road” was published, a new concept named after the writer opens its door in the Roma neighborhood. This new fine dining restaurant specializes in dry-aged meat through a process that involves letting whole steaks rest for weeks, and sometimes months, at low temperatures and controlled humidity levels to let the meat’s own enzymes and microbes get to work, thus achieving softer and more flavorful steaks.

Creme brulee de maracuya

We suggest starting your experience with a bottle of wine, Kerouac offers over 100 labels of “rare” wines, or rather hard to find at other restaurants or stores in the city. Its menu is brief, however, you can enjoy entrees such as the avocado and poached egg montadito, the red snapper tartar with habanero ashes, and the anise flavored crab juice to beat the cold weather. Steaks are large, that’s why we recommend visiting Kerouac with a group to share either the 55-day Tomahawk or the 60-day Prime Rib, both extremely soft and with a stronger flavor than usual. End your meal with their delicious passion fruit creme brulee or the corn bread.

Sagardi

A year after opening in Mexico City, Sagardi has quickly become the place to enjoy excellent Basque foods on Av. Presidente Masaryk. In addition to offering classic Spanish dishes, such as potato tortilla, golden on the outside and perfectly cooked inside, squid with its ink croquettes, and the best Iberian ham. If you love red meat, you’ll love this place, as steaks are one of its specialties.

We suggest you order the txuleton, which uses old cows from Mexico’s dairy regions that are over six years of age and at the peak of their flavor. Meat goes through four weeks of aging, and upon arriving at your table in ideal portions to share, you’ll be surprised by its tenderness plus intense flavor and juiciness.
